On the eve of Chinese New Year (16 February 2026), Fairsians and teachers gathered in a festively decorated hall for the school’s Multi-Ethnic Celebration (MEC). Adorned in red and gold, the hall reflected themes of blessings and prosperity, while students and teachers, dressed in vibrant multi-ethnic attire, created a lively tapestry of cultures. More than a Chinese New Year celebration, the MEC highlighted Fairfield’s commitment to appreciating diverse traditions and fostering unity across cultures.
The ceremony kicked off with Chinese New Year songs performed by the Secondary
4 Chapel Band. The strings of the guitar reverberated like the gallop of
a horse, while the steady beats of the drums crackled like firecrackers
welcoming the new year. Classic Chinese songs like 恭喜恭喜, 大地回春, and 大团 filled
the hall, inviting the audience to sing along and immerse themselves in
the festive spirit. Next, a combined multi-cultural performance led
by the Dance CCA and Student Council took centre stage.
The performers presented a vibrant medley featuring Bole Chudiyan, Hari Raya Raya Raya,
and 新年幸福绕, celebrating Singapore’s rich multiculturalism. With
rhythmic claps and energetic movements, every step pulsed with life and
enthusiasm, as the audience cheered and sang along, creating a lively and
joyous atmosphere.
A special guest segment by Star Word Artistry Studio brought the celebration to a memorable close. The performance told the story of Yue Fei, a Southern Song Dynasty general renowned for his leadership and loyalty. The Chinese opera vividly portrayed his righteousness and care for his troops, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
As the celebration concluded, the hall resonated with joy and a renewed appreciation for Singapore’s diversity. Laughter and cheerful chatter reflected the shared happiness of the occasion. Through this meaningful event, Fairsians deepened their understanding of multi-racial culture and embraced the spirit of unity and togetherness, warmly welcoming the new year.
